Chapter Twenty

Jackson

Seeing Grace shift her weight from one foot to the other while she looked around her front yard killed me. I knew what she was waiting for, and I was afraid to give it to her. We’d shared two mind-blowing kisses today, and I didn’t think I’d be able to stop if I tried it again.

And she had a lot on her plate. She’d made mention of that more than once.

I didn’t want to add confusion to her life because the whole thought confused the hell out of me.

But seeing the hopeful look in her eyes created an ache I couldn’t shake.

I took a step forward and pulled her into my arms.

Grace’s eyes connected with mine as she smiled.

“This is more like it,” she murmured.

“Yeah?” I said gruffly, trailing my thumb along her bottom lip.

The charge running between us reminded me of why I’d fallen for her so hard the first time.

Grace’s hands moved just under my damp shirt as she ran her nails along my back.

I knew I wanted her now more than ever, and it would take everything I had to stay away.

To give her space.

“Kiss me.” Her eyes looked dreamy with want. “Please.”

“Grace, I don’t want to hurt you.”

“You won’t,” she whispered, skating her fingers along my back. “Just a kiss.”

Just a kiss.

That was impossible with Grace Henry.

She pursed her lips into a perfect little pout, and I couldn’t handle it any longer.

My mouth found hers as she let out a little moan of pleasure, her tongue pleading with mine to go deeper. I ran my hands tenderly along her jaw until they cradled her head, and the longing thrummed through me in an unstoppable way.

I felt her lips turn into a smile as our tongues swirled into a closeness that had been years in the making. Her breasts heaved gently into my body as her hands traced around my sides.

The thought of her hands on every part of me made me harden even more.

“Mm,” she murmured, and I fluttered my eyes open as our kisses slowed. “That ought to hold me.”

“Until when?”

She looked at me with dopy eyes fueled with the same desire I had racing through me.

“I don’t know, Mr. Locke. But I needed that.”

“I need more than that.”

Her cheeks flushed, and she smiled. “Maybe, one day.”

I nodded and smiled. “Right. Maybe, one day.”

The heat running through me made it nearly impossible to focus. If she hadn’t broken our kiss, I would have swung her over my shoulders and brought her back inside.

So, it was better this way.

She knew her limits.

She had her boundaries.

“What about a round of golf with me?” I asked, knowing she used to trudge along the courses with me when we were teens.

Grace nodded and hugged herself, but it wasn’t because it was cold outside.

The temperature was warm and balmy, not even a breeze to inch across us.

“That would be nice.”

“Izzy, too,” I offered.

She smiled. “Thank you.”

“For including her?” I frowned and shook my head. “Why wouldn’t I? She’s you, and you are her.
